What is it that makes Rohit Sharma such a special talent? Why is it that the knowledgeable talk so highly of this Mumbaikar, donning the Deccan Chargers colours in the DLF Indian Premier League? Two stunning innings inside 24 hours offer us a fascinating insight into his batsmanship – and I am talking of his knocks against Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab. His match-winning effort against Kolkata Knight Riders has been the knock of the tournament. When Mashrafe Mortaza got to bowl the last over, Rohit Sharma had the psychological advantage. Mashrafe was playing the first game of the tournament and was bowling the final over. And Mashrafe made the mistake of bowling a little too quick. The pace made a lot of difference – and that became apparent when Irfan Pathan bowled to Rohit in a similar situation the next day. Rohit used the pace very well. The six off a full toss was an outstanding shot because he hit it into the stands. The way he hits the ball is wonderful and very difficult at the same time. Striking a six off a full toss from a fast bowler is not easy. Even the last ball he hit was a good ball. I think it was a good idea to bowl a bouncer. Everyone was expecting Mashrafe to bowl either a yorker or a slower one and that too maybe slightly outside the off-stump. The bouncer was the last idea on even the batsman’s mind. Generally batsmen would not expect a bouncer off the last ball of the match. Also Mashrafe never bowled a bouncer throughout the innings. It was an accurate bouncer but Rohit had played five balls already and was not struggling and had the confidence. He just went with the flow and used the speed of the bowler. When he faced Irfan the next day, Rohit could not repeat what he did against Mashrafe. He was tired and not very fresh. He swung the bat against the slower one which was a brilliant ball. To hit the ball he put in all the effort. He had already scored 40 odd runs and was exhausted. The other part is Irfan in an experienced guy and both know one other well. Irfan varied his pace very well. Ultimately it was going to be 50-50. Against Mashrafe, the ball was in the slot to be hit and the pace proved handy. Rohit adjusted very well against Mashrafe, swinging his arms. Against Irfan he needed five runs and he went all out for that. The length was a fraction away from where Rohit would have liked. He has God given gift. There are certain things you cannot explain. It is this ability which has made him special
Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming was candid enough to admit his side was just not at its best when losing to Kolkata Knight Riders in the DLF Indian premier League here on Monday. Here are excerpts from his media interaction. On the bowling attack not doing its job It is the best we have got and we weren't at our best. I had hoped for better. The dangerous thing with Kolkata Knight Riders was that they had nothing to lose. And the way the likes of Brendon McCullum and Brad Hodge play. When you get a big score on the board, it almost forces a team to throw caution to the wind. And that I think was the danger. We weren't accurate as we could be with the cricket ball. Thats the first thing we put our hand up and say that. Right through we were placed under pressure. We couldn't execute as what we have been doing in the past couple of rounds. Saying that there was some great cricket shots played and they were quickly got on the front foot which can happen. So, it was a tough game for us. We were disappointed that we couldn't defend that score certainly. But you also have got to be accepting that some of the cricket that was played by Kolkata Knight Riders certainly not fitting a side that struggled throughout the tournament. And that's just the danger when

On Tuesday
Delhi Daredevils were treated to a dose of their own medicine by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who took a confident step toward semifinal qualification, at the Wanderers here. The seven-wicket win catapulted Royal Challengers Bangalore to the fourth spot in the league table behind Delhi (18 points), Chennai Super Kings (15) and Deccan Chargers (14). Of course, Royal Challengers Bangalore also have 14 points but are fourth with an inferior net run rate. But they are ahead of Kings XI Punjab (14 points) and Rajasthan Royals (13 points). On a day when Delhi Daredevils rested their lead performers like Tillekeratne Dilshan, Amit Mishra and Dirk Nannes, Royal Challengers Bangalore new ball bowler Praveen Kumar inflicted another failure on skipper Virender Sehwag by having him caught at square-leg in the first over. Praveen Kumar then surprised Mithin Manhas with a slow bouncer and got him out too.Jacques Kallis bowled his four overs on the trot very economically and picked up Gautam Gambhir's wicket and Anil Kumble turned another great effort with the ball. Without Dilshan’s inspirational presence - and with AB de Villiers playing more aggressively than usual, it was clear that Delhi Daredevils' lower middle-order would come under scrutiny for the first time. And that did not come through well as the side made 134 for seven, at least 20 runs below par. It meant that the table toppers would have to take early wickets and have their spinners, especially Daniel Vettori be on top of their game, Ashish Nehra did scalp Robin Uthappa in his first over to inject excitement but Kallis and Rahul Dravid and then Ross Taylor took the game away.Kallis made 58 not out (56 balls, two fours, two sixes) and Dravid 38 (34 balls, four fours) in sharing a 70-run stand while it was Taylor’s big hitting fetched him 25 runs off 12 balls (one four, three sixes) that spurred Royal Challenger Bangalore towards such a facile win that has usually been the prerogative of Delhi Daredevils. The fact that Royal Challengers Bangalore had one over to spare helped them improve their net run rate to -0.253, better than Kings XI Punjab's -0.423 but both are behind Deccan Chargers’ NRR of +0.265

One bad over cost us the game Sehwag

Everybody in team is captain in his own right Jennings

Delhi Daredevils have resisted temptation to.

Rohit's backlift and swing make him brilliant choice.

Important not to plan too much in T20 matches Viru is really the captain, I am not Gambhir
